Headington Hill Hall

On my visit to Headington Hill Hall, I was surprised firstly by how close it was to my halls, and that I had never seen it before; and secondly by how grand it was. 

Nestled in between some unsightly temporary buildings stands a very proud old building, Originally built in 1824 for the Morrell family, but nowadays is used as a School of Social Sciences and Law for Brookes. Thankfully the University has made a noticeable effort to keep the beauty of this house. 

I entered the building into the largest and most impressive room. The entrance has high ceilings and and an impressive staircase leading onto the the stained-glass window which depicts Robert Maxwell (former owner of the house) as Samson at the gates of Gaza (as seen To the left). I also visited the dining area and the front room looking over the 14 acre grounds onto Oxford. 

Not only was this hall a shelter from the rain when I looked around, it was also a nice trip and a peaceful walk around the grounds of this house with such rich history. It will not be my last visit.
